Restoring tourism after the Covid-19 epidemic: Aiming to domestic market

Khanh Hoa tourism suffered many losses due to the Covid-19 epidemic. In the first quarter of 2020, the province only welcomed about 644,000 visitors (equaling 41.4% compared to the same period in 2019), including 415,000 international visitors, equal to 47%. With a sharp decrease in arrivals in the first quarter, the tourism industry lost about VND5,400 billion. However, according to the leader of the Department of Tourism, Vietnam is currently controlling the disease quite well. Therefore, the provincial Department of Tourism has developed a plan to carry out solutions to restore tourism activities after the Covid-19 epidemic.
 
Waiting for domestic tourists
 
According to the leaders of the Department of Tourism, as epidemics are occurring in many countries, leading to the restriction of international flights, the priority to exploit the domestic tourism market will be an appropriate direction. Therefore, in the summer of this year, Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa tourism will focus on implementing solutions to attract domestic tourists, especially visitors from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The provincial Department of Tourism has set a target of 300,000 domestic visitors in the second quarter.
 
In addition to the domestic market, Khanh Hoa tourism will focus on exploiting key international tourist markets: China, Russia, and South Korea after the pandemic. In the plan to restore tourism, Southeast Asian countries and Australia will be also potential markets in the last months of 2020 if the epidemic is over. In the long term, tourism of the province continues to implement solutions to diversify the guest markets.

Stimulating tourism
 
With the prolonged epidemic situation, the Department of Tourism has adjusted targets of the tourism industry in 2020. Accordingly, Khanh Hoa tourism aims to welcome 300,000 tourists in the second quarter (100% are domestic visitors), equal to 16% over the same period in 2019; the figure for the third quarter is 1.1 million tourists, 790,000 of whom are domestic tourists; the figure for the fourth quarter is more than 1.4 million tourists, including 616,000 domestic visitors.
 
Currently, the provincial Department of Tourism offers many solutions to restore tourism activities, including focusing on the tourism stimulus program which is expected to take place from June to December. All information about the tourism stimulus program such as promotions, discounts and incentives will be posted on website  NhaTrangNow.com, helping visitors easily find out information and choose the suitable activities. On the morning of April 23, Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa Tourism Association held a meeting to discuss the implementation of the tourism stimulus package and the program to promote domestic and international tourism. Mr. Hoang Van Vinh - Chairman of Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa Tourism Association said that at present, many businesses have registered to participate in the stimulus program that the association and the Department of Tourism are deploying.
 
Along with the stimulus program, in the coming time, Khanh Hoa tourism will boost the promotion of tourism by digital technology, gradually reducing participation in tourism fairs and organization of roadshows. In particular, the Department of Tourism will promptly put into operation a digital communication system (electronic portal, web of stimulus program ...); tourism businesses promote communication packages on social network platforms to spread information and images of Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa tourism to domestic and international tourists.
 
In the long term, Khanh Hoa tourism will invest in market research and adjust the tourist market more reasonably. In addition, the tourism will invest in a variety of tourism products, with priority given to innovative solutions in developing tourism products to enhance the service value chain and enhance the image of the destination; build sustainable links in local tourism activities.
