Defeating Myanmar in the third-place match of the AFF Futsal Championship 2022, Vietnam won the last ticket to the AFC Futsal Asian Cup finals - Kuwait 2022 scheduled to take place in September.

In both matches with Vietnam at the AFF Futsal Championship 2022 (preliminary round and third-place match), Myanmar displayed tight defensive play, causing many difficulties to Vietnamese strikers. In the first match, Myanmar held Vietnam 1-1. In the third-place match, Vietnam kicked off the match with an overwhelming play, but the tight defense of Myanmar made it difficult for Vietnamese strikers to score.  It was not until the end of the second half that Vietnam had a 1-0 lead thanks to Thinh Phat, who has debuted in the national team.

After conceding the goal, Myanmar pushed forward and performed power-play in the last minutes of the regulation time to find an equalizer. Taking the advantage of the loss of focus of Vietnamese players, Myanmar scored the equalizer in the dying seconds, sending the match to penalty shootout. Vietnamese goalkeeper Ho Van Y performed excellently in the penalty shootout, saving three shots of Myanmar’s players, helping Vietnam win 4-1 on aggregate, winning the last ticket of Southeast Asia (together with Thailand and Indonesia) to the AFC Futsal Asian Cup finals - Kuwait 2022.

Thus, although not reaching the final of the AFF Futsal Championship 2022 as expected, Vietnam obtained not bad results at the tournament with the bronze medal and the ticket to the AFC Futsal Asian Cup finals - Kuwait 2022. The impressive debut of striker Thinh Phat was a remarkable point of Vietnam national futsal team at this tournament. Thinh Phat was called up to the national team for the final round of World Cup 2021; however, he couldn’t play due to injury. At the AFF Futsal Championship 2022, Thinh Phat scored 5 goals in 5 matches and was voted as the best player of the match twice. With the successful debut of Thinh Phat, coach Pham Minh Giang of Vietnam national futsal team will have more options for the attacking line in SEA Games 31 and the AFC Futsal Asian Cup finals - Kuwait 2022.

Results of the AFF Futsal Championship 2022 (taking place from April 2 to 10 in Bangkok, Thailand): Thailand placed first; Indonesia placed second; Vietnam ranked first.
