Many Vietnam’s best beach volleyball athletes have been from Khanh Hoa Province. In the recent editions of SEA Games or Asia’s beach volleyball tournaments, a lot of Khanh Hoa athletes were selected for the national beach volleyball team. At SEA Games 30 held in Philippines, Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam, Nguyen Le Thi Tuong Vy and Vu Ngoc Lan Nguyen were the three young athletes of Khanh Hoa being called up to the national team. Although they didn’t get achievements as expected, the experience they earned through that training session and SEA Games is the precious experience helping them to prepare for the 31st edition of SEA Games.

In over one recent year, Vietnam’s female beach volleyball team has practiced at Can Tho City National Sports Training Center under the instruction of Australian coach Adam Maskell and Vietnamese coach Pham Ba Chung. Vietnam join women’s beach volleyball of SEA Games 31 with four athletes, one of Ho Chi Minh City and three of Khanh Hoa. They set the target of obtaining a silver medal.

In the male team, coach Nguyen Thanh Vinh of Khanh Hoa is the assistant coach. Five athletes of Khanh Hoa being called up to the national team include Nguyen Van Thanh, Ton Long Nhat, Danh Quy Suat, Tran Quang Vu, Nguyen Van Nha. At SEA Games 30 in Philippines, Nguyen Van Nha and Ton Long Nhat of Khanh Hoa experienced playing against two strong athletes of Thailand. Before being selected for the role of assistant coach, Nguyen Thanh Vinh was one of the best athletes of Vietnam beach volleyball. He won two gold medals at the latest National Sports Festival and tens of gold medals at the national beach volleyball tournaments. This time, Nguyen Thanh Vinh is expected to assist head coach Nguyen Thanh Tam to achieve bronze medal at SEA Games 31.

Currently, in Southeast Asian region, Thailand and Indonesia are the two strong forces in beach volleyball, followed by Philippines. Hopefully, after two years focusing on practicing and competing at the national and international tournaments, Vietnam’s male athletes in general and Van Nha and Long Nhat in particular have improved their skills and fulfill their target at SEA Games 31.
