The provinces of Vinh Phuc and Bac Ninh were the original venues for the first round of the 2020 national volleyball championship. However, Vinh Phuc Province has had some suspected cases of Covid-19. Therefore, Ha Tinh Province was chosen to replace Vinh Phuc to host the first round.
The 2020 national volleyball championship’s first round includes ten male and female teams spitted into two groups. Group B’s men event comprises of Sanest Khanh Hoa, Binh Duong Construction Material, Long An, Border, and Ha Tinh; women’s event includes VTV Binh Dien Long An, Vietinbank, Than Quang Ninh, Duc Giang Hanoi, and Tien Nong Thanh Hoa.

The first round was scheduled to start in April; however, the specific time for competitions will be arranged depending on the situation of Covid-19. Consequently, Hung Vuong Cup — the contest for the four most excellent teams from the first round, which is often organized on the occasion of Hung Kings’ death anniversary (lunar March) — is likely to be rescheduled or even postponed indefinitely. Meanwhile, Hoa Lu Cup is expected to take place as planned at the end of March, joined by six male teams: Trang An Ninh Binh, Sanest Khanh Hoa, Border, Hanoi, The Cong, and Ha Tinh.
Although Covid-19 epidemic has caused bad impacts on many sectors of society, including sports, many professional volleyball teams in Vietnam have still actively practiced and prepared for the new season. Sanest Khanh Hoa signed middle blocker Pham Thai Hung on loan from Da Nang City Sports Center. Thai Hung, 1.98 meters in height, has been a key middle blocker in the national volleyball team. He is hoped to contribute effectively to the quick attacking tactic which coach Thai Quang Lai is building up for Sanest Khanh Hoa.
Last season, Sanest Khanh Hoa achieved gold medal at the National Sports Festival, championship at Hung Vuong Cup and second place at the national championship. Signing Pham Thai Hung, Sanest Khanh Hoa are showing their determination to play well this season.
