Khanh Hoa’s karate saw some positive signs of developments from the encouraging results of the district teams at the lately provincial karate contest for age groups 2019.

The 2019 karate contest for age groups of Khanh Hoa happened at the provincial Sports Hall with the participation of more than 130 players of nine district, town, and city karate clubs in the province. The participants were divided into groups of ages from 12 to 14 and from 15 to over 30, competing in kata and kumite events (weight categories from 41k to over 65kg) for 24 sets of medals.

The contest is one of the movement sports events held annually of Khanh Hoa; therefore, it is often prepared carefully by the participating units. Nha Trang has always been a strong favorite to win prizes at this contest. However, as said by Vo Ngoc Hung, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports, in recent 3 years, the results of other localities such as Cam Lam, Ninh Hoa, Van Ninh, and Dien Khanh Districts have been very encouraging.

In the 2018 contest, with a large number of players and many good players taking part in all age groups and weight categories, Nha Trang teams overpowered the others, especially in kumite event, gaining 17 medals (14 golds and three silvers) out of 24 medal sets and grabbed first place in team’s event. In this year’s edition, Nha Trang still secured the first position for whole teams; however, Cam Lam and Ninh Hoa also showed their progress. The players of Cam Lam won four gold medals of the total of six in women’s even, age group of 15 to over 30; one gold in women’s team event. In men’s kumite, the gulf between Nha Trang players and other teams’ players was not large as in the previous years’ contests. Nha Trang took three gold medals; Cam Lam, Ninh Hoa, and Khanh Vinh got one medal set each.

The maintained number of players and encouraging results of the participating units at the 2019 karate contest for age groups reflected the stable development of karate and was a positive sign for the development of this sport Khanh Hoa.
