Khanh Hoa's former footballers meet at charity football tournament

The torrential rain caused by the tropical depression almost has not affected the enthusiasm of the players competing in the ongoing football tournament for the players over 40 years old – Thien Nguyen Cup 2018 at 19-8 Stadium, Nha Trang.

The fourth edition of Thien Nguyen Cup takes place from December 27 to January 13, jointly organized by Thanh Thanh Travel and the sponsors Olympic Gym and DBS Football Training Center. The tournament gathers five football clubs in Khanh Hoa, including Dien Khanh, Hoang Sa – Truong Sa, Vinh Trung, Viet Trang, and Thanh Thanh. The participants are both formers players of the professional football clubs of Khanh Hoa and other provinces and amateur players.

According to Tran Phuc Thao, deputy head of the board of organizers, Thien Nguyen Cup is considered as a friendly tournament for the formers players to meet and share their love for football. Besides, through the tournament, the organizers also call for donations from the sponsors and the players to do support the people in need.

The meaningful purpose of the tournament has drawn the attention and participation of many units and former football players in Khanh Hoa. Ngoc Thong, Huu Dang, Nguyen Ty, and Dang Dao are among the former outstanding footballers of Khanh Hoa taking part in the 2018 Thien Nguyen Cup. Despite the rain, the opening match between Thanh Thanh and Hoang Sa – Truong Sa was played with the enthusiasm and determination to win of the players. Dang Dao, who is in his 50s, still showed his skills which reminded the audience of the days when he was an excellent striker of Khanh Hoa football. He scored 3 in the 5-1 victory of Thanh Thanh over Hoang Sa – Truong Sa.

Reportedly, at present, the tournament has collected a donation of more than VND50 million. The money will be given to the charity kitchen of Khanh Hoa General Hospital and orphanage at Loc Tho Pagoda, Nha Trang. The donations are expected to rise until the end of the tournament.
