Teaching children swimming skills and promoting swimming movement among teenagers and children are activities which are drawing much attention of many departments and organizations in Khanh Hoa. Improving the quality of swimming teachers is expected to better the province’s swimming movement.

In recent years, Khanh Hoa’s education sector and localities often propagandize the local communities and hold training classes on swimming skills and water safety for pupils to prevent drowning accidents. However, the number of the pupils who can swim in Khanh Hoa has still not met the target. The scheme of teaching pupils to swim at schools of Khanh Hoa, which started in 2017, has faced many difficulties such as lack of qualified swimming teachers. Among 789 physical exercise teachers over the province, only 88 ones have got qualified swimming certificates.

Nha Trang Bureau of Education and Training has implemented relatively well the teaching of swimming for primary pupils.  In the 2017-2018, 798 pupils of 20 primary schools in the city were taught swimming skills. 741 (92.8%) learners could swim after the swimming courses. Nha Trang People’s Committee often opens three to five swimming classes for children in summer. Around 250 to 500 children take part in these summer swimming courses. A competition is also organized after each course in order to create a useful playground for the learners as well as to assess the quality of the course.

According to Vo Ngoc Hung, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports, swimming is a favorite sport of many people in the province. It is difficult to organize large-scaled swimming competitions in the province due to the lack of adequate facilities and qualified instructors. The schools play an essential role in promoting swimming movement. Hung said that it requires the close cooperation between the sections of education and sports to improve the quality of the swimming teachers and better swimming movement in the province.
