The 2018 edition of the AFF Beach Football Championship took place in Bali (Indonesia) from November 18 to 24. Acknowledging the importance of this tournament and aiming for the best result, the national team of Vietnam had a hard training course in Nha Trang one month prior to the kick-off day.
Le Van Tu, head coach of Vietnam national beach football team, said that among four opponents of Vietnam at this year’s tournament, Thailand was the best team and a formidable rival. Thailand in recent years has invested well in beach football. They have their own beach football championship with relatively same quality as their Thai League.

Vietnam played tough games against Indonesia and Malaysia in the group stage. Maybe due to playing too cautious, Vietnam, although having being highly appreciated than Malaysia, continuously went down 1-0 and 2-1 and only came from behind to win the game 3-2 after the third half.
In the match with Indonesia, Vietnam scored the opener but afterwards conceded two goals. The team managed to level the score finally won the game 3-2. The third match against Thailand, Vietnam was hammered 4-9. However, when meeting again in the final, Vietnam with a high determination overcame Thailand with the scoreline of 6-4. This has been the first championship of Vietnam beach football at the Southeast Asian tournament.
Khanh Hoa’s beach football contributed much in the result of Vietnam at the 2018 AFF Beach Football Championship. There were seven players and two coaches of Khanh Hoa serving in the national team. Le Van Tu, coach of Khanh Hoa beach football team, was also the head coach of the national team at this championship. The most outstanding athletes of Khanh Hoa when playing for the national team this time were Nguyen Anh Quang, Nguyen Anh Nhan, Le Kim Tuan, Tran Vinh Phong, and Bui Tran Tuan Anh. The investment and support from the many units like Vietnam Football Federation, General Department of Sports, and Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports, and so on.
Reportedly, the Vietnam Football Federation awarded the national team VND300 million right after the team securing the 2018 trophy.
