Billiards in general and three-cushion billiards in particular have been practiced and been a popular sport in Khanh Hoa for a long time. There are many billiards clubs across the province. However, Khanh Hoa billiards players have not been so competitive compared to the outstanding players of other localities. The province’s sports section held and has maintained the provincial three-cushion billiards open tournament in order to help the province’s billiards players to gain experience and improve their skills.

The 2018 edition of the open tournament took place at ASIA Billiards Club from November 8 to 11. The tournament saw the participation of more than 140 billiard players from 15 clubs, provinces, and cities in the central and highland region, such as Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Lam Dong, Gia Lai, Binh Thuan, Ninh Thuan, Soc Trang, and Khanh Hoa. As said by international referee and chief referee at the 2018 tournament Phuong Chanh Trung, this year’s edition had a larger number of participant and better quality than the previous years’ ones. Many experience and good players who got achievements at the previous editions and Khanh Hoa’s semi-professional billiards tournaments took part in this year’s tournament. In addition, the joining of Soc Trang team added more exciting factors to the 2018 tournament.
Nguyen Minh Dat, deputy head of the organization committee of the tournament, said that since 2015, although the three-cushion billiards open tournament of Khanh Hoa has been organized at a smaller scale than before, the number of participants and quality of the matches have still been maintained and even increased.
In the past, the organization committee invited some professional billiards players like Duong Anh Vu, Ly The Vinh, and Ma Minh Cam to join the tournament so as to increase the quality of the tournament as well as promote it. In recent years, the tournament has become quite popular with the billiards players in the central and highland region. The increase of players from 67 in the 2017 edition to 140 in the 2018 one partly reflected the tournament’s attractiveness.
