1. Uncle Ho Statue unveiled in Cam Ranh
The 7.9m- tall statue of Uncle Ho was unveiled in Cam Ranh on December 19 after 2 years of construction. It depicts him standing on a prow. The statue is made of Granite under the design of Tran Viet Hung and Nguyen Xuan Tien. This construction marks the day Uncle Ho President Ho stopped in Cam Ranh Bay on October 18 1946.
2. Contest on “Telling stories about President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example”, region III.
The Contest on “Telling stories about President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example”, region III was held at the cultural center (46 Tran Phu Street) with an attendance of 25 contestants from 17 provinces and cities in the southern central region, the highland and some southern eastern provinces. Candidates attracted audiences by stories about President Ho Chi Minh’s simple life and moral examples. The first prize went to Bui Thi Thuy from Ninh Thuan Province.
3. Miss Universe 2008 pageant

Miss Universe 2008, the 57th Miss Universe beauty pageant, was held at the Crown Convention Center (Diamond Bay Resort) in Nha Trang on July 14, 2008. The beautiful girls joined many activities such as street parade, a visit to SOS children’s Village, Gala Dinner in Vinpearl, etc...Dayana Mendoza, Miss Venezuela, was crowned Miss Universe 2008 by outgoing Japanese titleholder Riyo Mori. 80 contestants competed in the event, which was broadcasted and distributed globally to TV outlets in more than 180 countries.
Earlier, Miss Universe Vietnam 2008 was held from 22nd to 31st May. 20 contestants competed in the final round in Vinpearl Land, Nha Trang City. Thuy Lam was crowned Miss Universe Vietnam 2008. Miss Thuy Lam entered top 15 of the Miss Universe 2008 pageant.
4. Nha Trang tourism and culture festival Nha Trang rendezvous 2008”
The Nha Trang tourism and culture festival in Khanh Hoa province opened with the “Nha Trang rendezvous 2008” – “Rass – words of love” musical performance on April 17 in Nha Trang’s 2-4 square.
Many activities and shows featured the cultural and natural beauty of Khanh Hoa known as the land of aloe wood. While unique folk festivities such as Ponagar temples festival, Cau Ngư" Festival and so on brought audiences back to the ancient cultural life of Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa, pop songs and fashion shows portrayed a modern life that is taking shape in the city.
5. Singing about Soldiers Festival
Nearly 500 military actors and actresses took part in the 18th Soldiers Singing about Soldiers Festival launched by Khanh Hoa Province's Military Command and the Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Sixteen army and civilian art troupes delighted audiences with popular dances and songs in praise of the glorious Party and Great Uncle Ho and the traditions of the army, as well as love for the home country. This event marked the Vietnam People’s Army Day (December 22 1944 - December 22 2008) and All People’s Defense Day (December 22 1989 - December 22 2008).
