Miss Venezuela, 22-year-old Dayana Mendoza, won the 2008 Miss Universe pageant at the Final Coronation Show held at the Crown Convention Center of Diamond Bay in Nha Trang, Vietnam July 14.
The show started with greetings of 80 contestants who were in red, blue, violet, yellow colored dresses. Next, two hosts Mel B and Jerry Spinger announced the 15 top list to join the bikini performance. Then, 10 finalists were chosen for evening gown performance. After that, the list of 5 contestants for the interview was Miss Venezuela, Miss Columbia, Miss Dominican Republic, Miss Russia and Miss Mexico.
Finally, Miss Venezuela Dayana Mendoza was crowned Miss Universe 2008, beating runners-up from three other Latin American countries and Russia. Miss Colombia finished second behind Mendoza, followed by Miss Dominican Republic, Miss Russia and Miss Mexico.
Miss Thailand won the prize for best national costume and Miss El Salvador was chosen by her peers as Miss Congeniality.
After the coronation show, a press conference was arranged for to Miss Universe 2008 answer the press. On that evening, fireworks and a party were held to congratulate the new titleholder.
