Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam Gas) on December 25 signed a contract to be the official sponsor of the national football championship 2008, called V-League 2008.
The V-League 2008 with the participation of 14 teams including Binh Duong, Nam Dinh, Long An, Thanh Hoa, Hanoi ACB, Hoa Phat Hanoi, Gia Lai, Khanh Hoa, Da Nang, Song Lam-Nghe An, Saigon Port, The Cong and Haiphong will be held from January 6 to August 24, 2008. Each team can register five foreign players but only three are allowed to play any time. The Vietnamese Football Federation, the organization board of V-League 2008 will sell the television rights during the tournament.
Based on the funding from PetroVietnam, the federation will present 700 million VND to the champions, 350 million VND to the runners-up, 150 million VND to the third-place team and 50 million VND to the fair-play team.
Beside this, with the aim to make V-League more attractive, the organization board and the sponsor decided to increase the value of monthly awards. Best team of a month will be awarded 20 million VND, best player and coach of a month with 10 million VND each, best goal of a month with 5 million VND. In addition, the coach of the year will receive an award of 20 million VND. All above titles will be voted by experts and the press.
The sponsor contract is worth 12 billion VND, but the organization board only receives 8 billion VND after a percentage and other expenses are deducted. This sum of money is equal to organization expenditure of V-League 2007 while the organization expenditure this year is forecast to increase sharply and PetroVietnam Gas will get more benefits, for example more advertisement on television or stadiums. As a result, the federation has to try more for a tournament with high quality and security.
