2008 Vesak Buddhist festival will be held on May 13 – 17, 2008 at My Dinh National Conference Centre in Ha Noi with the theme “Buddhism for an equitable, democratic and advanced society”.

As planned, hundreds of Buddhist dignitaries and scholars from over 70 countries will participate in the event.
The Vesak festival, known as the most important Buddhist festival, marks Buddha’s birthday, his attaining Enlightenment and his entry into Nirvana.

The Vesak festival will take place with a number of activities. Beside Buddhist activities and workshops on Buddhism, traditional art performances will also be held during the festival. In addition, sight – seeing tours will be opened to these special delegates.

Speaking at the press conference held on November 28 in Hanoi, Mr. Nguyen The Doanh, Head of the Government Committee for Religion, concurrently Head of the Management Committee for the Vesak festival 2008 said that the Government and people of Vietnam are willing to support the Vietnam Buddhist Church, the International Organization Committee to hold a successful event in Vietnam.

He said that the event will show the right policies on religion of the State and the Party of Vietnam, helping strengthen Vietnam's position in the world.
