According to experts at home and abroad, if Vietnam submits the proposal documents to UNESCO and meet this organisation’s standards 2008, Phong Nha-Ke Bang national park will be recognized as a world natural heritage for biodiversity for a second time.
Five years ago, with its outstanding global value in terms of geography and geology, Phong Nha-Ke Bang national park was recognised by UNESCO as a world natural heritage in July 2003.
Besides its famous value with the Karst region, Phong Nha-Ke Bang is proved to be outstanding for its biodiversity.
At the recent final conference of the National Council for Cultural Heritage, scientists highly evaluated the scientific documentation of Phong Nha-Ke Bang park. Vietnam’s scientists have compared the park’s biodiversity to accredited heritage sites in the world.
Accordingly, the park’s biodiversity can compare to accredited heritage sites in Asia and Australia, especially to the nominated sites with limestone mountains like Puerto-Princesa Subterranean River National Park of the Philippines or Leshan in China.
According to Dr. Luu Tran Tieu, Chairman of The National Council for Cultural Heritage, the scientific documentation of Phong Nha-Ke Bang park this time has been enclosed with important document, proving that the Phong Nha-Ke Bang park deserves to be recognized as a world natural heritage.
