Ngo Phuong Lan, a Vietnamese student based in Switzerland, was crowned the winner of the Miss Vietnam World beauty contest on September 2, 2007 in Vinpearl, Nha Trang.
The first runner-up was Teresa Sam, a Vietnamese of Chinese origin, while the second runner-up spot went to Dang Minh Thu, a Vietnamese student from northern province of Nam Dinh.
The queen was awarded USD20,000 and a tour of Vietnam. She also won the prize for best question and answer contest.
The first and second runners-up received USD8,000 and USD5,000, respectively.
The three winners of the Miss Photogenic, Miss Beach and Miss Tourism were Nguyen Cao Thu Van from the US, Nguyen Thi Van Anh from Ukraine and Nguyen Kang Wun Ching from Germany, respectively. Each got USD2,000.
In addition, the organizers awarded four other prizes; those are Best Performance prize to Nguyen Thi Anh Ly; Best Charming in Ao Dai (Vietnamese traditional long dress) to Ana Hua Ngoc Anh; Best Skin to Vu Ngoc Anh, and Best Impressive Costume to Tran Ngoc Bich. Each prize is worth USD1,000.
At the end of the contest, the organizers donated VND100 million to the Khanh Hoa Association of Victims of Agent Orange and VND100 million to the provincial Gratitude Fund.
On September 3, a delegation of organizers, Miss Vietnam World Ngo Phuong Lan and some other contestants visited several families that have members afflicted by Agent Orange, the dioxin by the US during the war.
