18-year-old Mai Phuong Thuy was crowned Miss Vietnam 2006. What the young girl from has experienced was worth admiration.
Once setting foot on the Vinpearl resort in Nha Trang City, Mai Phuong Thuy (born in 1988) was paid attention by her height and body (1.79m tall, 60kg, a vital statistics of 86-65-95) with a gorgeous face, perfect skin and presence. Confident with a strong character, the girl from Hanoi really has everything to become Miss Vietnam 2006.
Phuong Thuy said she got her height from her family. Her father is 1.81m tall and her mother is 1.65m tall. Her father died when she was young and Phuong Thuy has been living with her grandparents. Since a little girl, she has proved to be self-reliant. She came to the contest by chance and took it as an opportunity to confirm herself. “One day I saw a Miss Vietnam 2006 poster and decided to apply for it. Coming to this contest, I don’t think about fame, but a good chance for me to meet many people and learn good things…”Thuy said. She herself looked for information about pageants on the internet to get more experience and knowledge. The girl from Hanoi always radiants confidence and her strong wish to confirm herself.
In addition, she was impressed by her English skills as she can speak to foreigners fluently. “I can listen, read and write English quite well”. Every day, she constantly listens to English songs and read English stories. She added, “I’ll learn Japanese and Chinese as I think they will be very helpful for me to look for a job in the future. As more and more Japanese enterprises have invested in Vietnam and I am a student at the Hanoi Foreign Trade University, Japanese will help me to work better...”
Before the final night of the Miss Vietnam 2006, she said “Learning is always the most important for me whether I win the contest or not. Besides reading English books and newspapers, I often read literature books. A modern and active person needs to understand her traditional values.”
As reportedly, before attending the Vietnam Miss Contest, Phuong Thuy has won the scholarship to study at the administration and marketing department of RMIT, Australia. Phuong Thuy said “in this modern time, we have to take good advantage of our chances. Oversea study will help me to learn the flower of culture of many nations in the world. After studying abroad, I’ll return home to work for my country. I’m proud to be a Vietnamese girl. Hopefully, with her confidence and youth’s desire, Phuong Thuy will get much success and contribute greatly to the country as a Miss Vietnam showing a new image of Vietnamese beauty to the world.
