Khanh Son District Women’s Association, Khanh Hoa Province has implemented various practical activities to help lift members, especially those from ethnic minorities out of poverty.
 
Promoting sustainable livelihoods
 
54-year-old Cao Thi Khien in Ta Giang 1, Thanh Son Commune said, “My family is poor and lacks capital for investment in farming. Thanks to the support of Khanh Son District Women’s Association, we can have seedlings and attend farming classes. We are determined to promote the livelihood and increase income to get out of poverty.
 
Nguyen Thi Bich Hanh, 39, in Cam Khanh Village, Son Lam Commune is a single mom with 2 little kids. She is running a breakfast service business. Thanks to the recommendation of the commune Women’s Association, she has been offered 4 sets of plastic tables and chairs; 1 gas cooker and 1 large gas tank to support her business to improve her living standard.

Along with livelihoods support by providing seedlings and breeders, the women's association at all levels in the district has regularly coordinated with authorities to provide vocational training, job counseling and recommendation for women; organize classes on advanced technique transfer and application in production development; provide guidance on livestock and poultry disease prevention and control; share business experience, improve marketing skills to develop production and business; thereby, contributing to assisting poor women's households, including those from ethnic minorities in promoting sustainable livelihoods, gradually improving their material and spiritual lives.
 
Assistance comes in various forms 
 
Cao Thi Hien, Chairwoman of the Khanh Son District Women's Union said that there are 1,616 poor women households, including 465 with female householders in the district. Every year, the association at all levels develops a plan to create breakthrough in counseling and assistance for women to develop production and business in an attempt to reduce poverty sustainably. Specifically, in 2021, the association at all levels coordinated with Khanh Son District Vocational Training Center to introduce 296 members and women to take vocational classes on restaurant services, food processing, information technology, veterinary medicine, fashion garment; recommended jobs to 345 women, of which 89 local female workers have been employed by garment companies in Ho Chi Minh City, Cam Ranh, City and restaurants and hotels in Nha Trang City.
 
In addition, the district women’s Association has also effectively implemented many practical models to help vulnerable women and kids: offered 35 piggy banks, 2,750 banana trees, 1,702kg of rice, mutual saving support, etc. attracting  the participation of 3,785 members and women. With mutual saving support coming in various forms, the district women’s Association has provided VND1.3 billion aid for 193 families, 130 of which have managed to escape from poverty.
 
In the coming time, the district Women's Union will continue taking advantage of resources to develop livelihood models to promote their economic empowerment. The Association will coordinate with the District Bank for Social Policies to survey and support households in need of loans; direct the Women's Association of communes and townships to mobilize, encourage and support members to promote sustainable economic models, according to Cao Thi Hien.
