To educate younger generations about the national glorious history, many roads in Ninh Hoa Town, Khanh Hoa Province are named after heroes, martyrs and landscapes.

It has been 54 years since Martyr, Hero of the People's Armed Force Nguyen Thi Ngoc Oanh (1949-1968), born in Ninh Hiep Commune, Ninh Hoa Town sacrificed her life to the homeland at the age of 20. Her devotion is recorded on the stone stele placed on the road named after her. This is the town’s busiest road beautifully illuminated on national holidays.

Tri Duc Primary School where she used to teach has been innovated and renamed into Ninh Hiep 1 Primary School, teaching younger generations to follow the ancestors’ glamorous traditions. Teacher Huynh Thi Ha, Ninh Hiep 1 Primary School says, “from the symbol of revolutionary spirit of Nguyen Thi Ngoc Oanh, the town Children’s House has funded making a video “a rose on the front line in Khanh Hoa”, depicting the life of Nguyen Thi Ngoc Oanh with directors, actors and actresses who are teachers and students in the town.

The background is the road named after Nguyen Thi Ngoc Oanh, her home and the school where she used to teach. More than what a history knowledge contest can do, the video clip has helped promote the love for the national history among younger generations in the most practical way.

By Dinh River is a road named after Nguyen Cu in Ninh Da Ward. Nguyen Cu or Nguyen Tu Cuong (1927-2003) is a high-ranking officer in the Vietnam People’s Army, Major General. Born in Ninh Da Ward, he joined army in 1945 and then was admitted to the Communist Party in 1946. In the resistance against French colonialism (1945-1954), he fought on Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa battle field. He willingly remained on the battle field although he got injured 7 times.

Next to Nguyen Cu Street is Hon Heo Street, a historical site which reminds 14 officials and soldiers of the C225 ship of the Vietnam People's Navy. They sacrificed themselves at Hon Heo (Ninh Van commune) on the way to support the South to fight for national liberation, contributing to a glorious victory in resistance war against the U.S imperialists for national salvation.

According to Nguyen Thanh Hung, Head of Ninh Hoa Town Culture and Information Office, currently, there are 48 streets, from 157m to 3,700m, named after revolutionary heroes in the town. The street names are classified as cultural and historical celebrities, landscapes and events. Besides the roads named after revolutionary heroes, there are roads named after locals who sacrificed for the homeland defense such as Nguyen Thi Ngoc Oanh, Nguyen Cu and Truong Cong Kinh; or roads bearing place names associated with local history such as Hon Heo, Song Can and Nui Sam.

The local street name bank includes 202 new street names. The town has assigned the Culture and Information Department to develop a road naming plan in 2022. The names of famous landmarks, historical and cultural events and celebrities recognized by the State will be prioritized to preserve the local identity, contributing to the education of national historical and cultural traditions, raising the patriotism and national pride among younger generations, said Nguyen Thi Hong Hai, Vice-Chairperson of Ninh Hoa Town People's Committee.
