Besides having been involved in fighting Covid-19, Khanh Hoa military force has organized a wide variety of meaningful activities to join the response efforts to the outbreak and stabilize local residents' life. Free shops are among good examples of their social work.
 
Reaching the poor and vulnerable
 
Residents in locked-down areas, especially poor people, have some difficulties. Therefore, Khanh Hoa Provincial Military Headquarters have opened free shops to provide necessities for many in need in Vinh Phuoc Ward, Vinh Truong Ward and Phuoc Dong Commune in Nha Trang City.

Colonel Trinh Viet Thanh, a political commissar of the Provincial Military Headquarters says, "There are various ways to help the residents and the free shops are to ensure the supplies reach the most needy in compliance with the pandemic control and prevention.
 
On its first opening day (July 17) at Vinh Truong Cultural House, the shop was scheduled to open at 4pm. However, cadres and soldiers of the Provincial Military Headquarters had arrived much earlier to make all preparations, including setting up tents and fences; arranging ways in and out; ensuring hand sanitizer available for use; discharging goods; dividing produces into small portions, each containing rice, vegetables, eggs, flour, instant noodles, fresh milk, etc. enough for family use within 3-5 days.
 
The family of Dang Thi Chinh, Group 3 Truong Hai, Vinh Truong Ward, is poor with 2 children. Since the pandemic outbreak, her husband has lost work, making  their family even harder. Receiving the gift from the free shop, she said emotionally, “The food is enough for us for up to a whole week. I am so grateful and touched by the generosity and kindness of soldiers during the hard time.”
 
Mobilization for the model expansion
 
The free shop model has been mainly joined by the Provincial Military Headquarters’ Woman’s Association and Youth Union. The funding and products for the charity from the donation of cadres and soldiers; farming at military units and the joint effort of many other organizations to help widen the reach of the model.
 
Colonel Trinh Viet Thanh, the Provincial Military Headquarters have implemented the free shops initially in the 3 locations in Nha Trang City. Due to the practical significance and effectiveness of the model, the Provincial Military Headquarters have directed military agencies of districts and towns in the province to coordinate with local departments and mass organizations to expand this model in an attempt to join hands to share burdens and difficulties during the on-going Covid-19 epidemic.
