The Provincial People's Committee has recently issued the Provincial Intellectual Property Development Program, period of 2021 - 2025, vision to 2030, with expectation to reach new height.

Developing 11 typical product brands

Nha Trang Salanganes' nest brand has been granted to Hai Yen Nha Trang Trading Limited Company (trading name The Hai Yen) by Khanh Hoa Department of Science & Technology. The company has applied to the National Office of Intellectual Property for intellectual property rights over 11 products, namely ready-to eat ONE S bird's nest, Nha Trang Salanganes' nest Blue Coffee, Nha Trang Salanganes' nest cordycep Blue Coffee, Yen Plus Shaca, Salanganes’ nest, Yen Plus, Yen Chat, etc.

Tran Thanh Hai, Director of The Hai Yen says the company has constantly developed prestige and ensured quality of products, not only to promote the popularity of Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa Salanganes' nest in particular but also improve the position of Vietnamese products in general. The company is building a factory in Trang E Industrial Cluster in Nha Trang and conducting further research to produce new products.

The communal brand of Ninh Giang daisy in Ninh Hoa Town was certified by the National Office of Intellectual Property in 2017. Ninh Giang is known as a daisy-growing area in the province. This is the 2nd year Ninh Giang Ward Farmers’ Association has granted 1,000 labels of the daisy flower brand to growers. However, not many growers have applied for the labels, so more propaganda to raise their awareness is needed to promote the marketing in the coming time, said Phan Sang, Chairman of Ninh Giang Ward Farmers’ Association.

According to the report by the Department of Science & Technology, period 2016 - 2020, the management of intellectual property activities has gained important achievements. Khanh Hoa has developed 11 brands of typical products, including 9 funded during the management, exploitation and development of intellectual property.

The product brands are built on geographical indication such as Cam Lam mango, Ninh Da coconut, Khanh Son durian, Nha Trang fish sauce and Nha Trang Salanganes’ nest, initially bringing economic efficiency to production households and contributing greatly to the province's One Commune-One Product (OCOP) program.

6 tasks and solutions

The program has set targets such as at least 5 typical products given guidance for application for intellectual property protection; at least 50% of OCOP programs promoting industrial clusters and value chains by 2025; applications for innovations and solutions up by 20%/ year on average; applications for industrial designs up by 3%/year, at least 1 typical product of export potential being protected by intellectual property rights abroad; at least 70% of OCOP programs boosting industrial clusters and value chains by 2030.
The application for protection of intellectual property rights contributes greatly to the socio-economic development. Therefore, in the future, it is necessary to enhance support and strengthen management to expand the geographical area of cultivation and spread the brand influence; focus on protecting innovations, solutions, industrial designs, plant varieties, etc. Activities to support, exploit brand values, transfer and commercialization of intellectual properties have met difficulties in assessing, handling and identifying infringement of intellectual property rights and thus need improving. The program to support the development of specific product brands in the 2016-2020 period has helped promote brand development. However, more support the application for and development of intellectual property; the protection of budget-funded scientific research results; together with more connection and support provided for organizations, institutes and universities is required. Further propaganda on intellectual property needs to be focused to further promote the culture of intellectual property, according to Le Vinh Lien Trang, Director of the Department of Science & Technology.

The Provincial People's Committee has recently issued the Provincial Intellectual Property Development Program, period of 2021 - 2025, vision to 2030,  defining 6 key tasks and solutions such as enhancing activities to create intellectual property, improving the quality of human resources on intellectual property and innovation; promoting the registration for intellectual property protection at home and abroad; improving the efficiency of management, exploitation and development of intellectual property; developing geographical indications; exploiting innovations, managing intellectual property of scientific and technological organizations and enterprises; boosting enforcement efficiency, promoting the capacity of intermediary organizations and intellectual property rights holders; forming a culture of intellectual property.
