Child care, protection and education in Khanh Hoa Province have been focused on with practical and meaningful activities over years.

Several practical models

According to the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, in the 2016 – 2020 period, the department coordinated with other sectors and mass organizations to develop many practical child care and protection models, namely "Safe home" to protect children from accidents and injuries; safe and supportive communities for children; the national hotline for child protection, support and counseling; etc. The model of "Trusted address - shelter" in the community implemented by the province at Ninh Hoa Town Center for Social Support since 2018 has contributed to providing intervention support, preventing children from being abused and exposed to harmful circumstances.

In addition, Khanh Hoa Women’s Union directed grassroots associations to maintain and improve the models of such clubs as “building happy families”, “couples with no more than 2 children”, “child malnutrition prevention and control”; “breastfeeding” and so on. Moreover, the Social Work Center and Children’s Fund have mobilized nearly VND19 billion to fund medical examination and orthopedic operation on thousands of children with disabilities and severe diseases in Khanh Hoa; grant scholarships to poor students and provide vocational training for those in need.

Effort for children’s sake

Child care and protection work is expected to be faced with great difficulties in mobilization of resources in the coming time due to the on-going Covid-19 outbreak. The Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has planned to continue developing specific practical solutions to improve child care, protection and education; especially to prevent disadvantaged children from being exposed to abuse, injury, drowning, etc. The Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs sector will strengthen the organizations in charge of child care and protection at all levels to raise operational efficiency; innovate the funding mobilization for the Child Protection Fund to attract sufficient resources for child care, protection and education programs and activities, according to Nguyen Dinh Hong Loan, Deputy Head of the Division of Social Protection - Children - Gender Equality (Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs).

Furthermore, the department will cooperate with localities to enhance and expand effective child protection models; pay further attention to medical care, vocational training for those in severely disadvantaged situations;  focus on publicizing the Children’s Laws and basic children’s rights. “In spite of difficulties, we will continue our great attempts to well implement the National Action Program for Children in Khanh Hoa Province, period 2021 - 2030, dedicated to making breakthrough innovation in child care,” said Nguyen Dinh Hong Loan.
