Teaching and learning foreign languages in Khanh Hoa Province have much improved. The English language approach program at nursery schools and primary schools has received much concern and attracted more and more learners.
 
Last year, thanks to great concern from local authorities, teaching and learning foreign languages enjoyed much convenience. Teachers, especially of English, students and their families have proactively responded to the provincial campaign on teaching and learning English at all education levels. In 2020, learners’ scores in English ranked 14th nationwide, inspiring teachers and students to greater efforts.
 
According to the leader of Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training, programs, resources, textbooks and other materials for teaching and learning foreign languages continued to improve in 2020 at all education levels. Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training piloted the English language approach program for nursery school children with the participation of 99/205 schools (accounting for 48.3%), up by 10 schools compared with the year 2019. 10,871/52,211 kids got access to the play-based English language program (accounting for 20.8%).

The 10-year English language curriculum  for grades 3 to 12 has started at primary schools. The grades 3, 4 and 5 have 2, 3 and 4 periods of English per week respectively based on actual conditions of schools, mostly 4 periods/ week. 966 kids at grades 1 to 5 at private schools have 10 periods/ week, using Cambridge programs and textbooks. 193 schools with 105,489 kids, including 58,620/61,675 third to fifth-graders (accounting for 95%) have English classes. The Department has directed units to develop the English language approach program for the 1st and 2nd graders, 28,005/43,814 kids (up by 20.1% compared to the previous school year).
 
There are 120 junior high schools with 78,300 students in Khanh Hoa. In 2020, the 10-year English language curriculum has been applied for grades 6 and 7 and some 8th and 9th grade classes with 42,203 students. There are 32 senior high schools with 37,566 students. The 10-year English language curriculum has been applied for grades 10 and 11 and some 12th grade classes with 27,466 students (accounting for 73.2%). 
 
Apart from English language, there are French language classes at 1 senior high school, 1 junior high school and 3 primary schools with 712 students in Nha Trang City. Besides, foreign languages are also used to teach other subjects. Le Quy Don Gifted School has math classes taught in English. Nguyen Van Troi High School and Tran Quoc Toan Junior High School, Nha Trang City, have math classes in French, etc.
 
To improve teaching, Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training continues developing data banks for periodical student assessment and examination for grades 9 and 12; directing the Divisions of Education and Training and its affiliations to have the same tests covering 4 skills, listening, speaking, reading and writing and language knowledge; annually organizing provincial English speaking contests for high school students in order to build learners’ confidence and creativity in communication; and develop foreign language environment.
 
The Education & Training sector will continue expanding the English language approach program for nursery kids, first-graders and second-graders; implementing the general education program 2018 and the large-scale 10-year English language curriculum for grades 7 to 12; providing professional development training for cadres; creating foreign language environment through clubs and extracurricular activities, etc., according to Le Dinh Thuan, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training.
