More drastic measures have been taken to tackle the Covid-19 outbreak. Khanh Hoa Department of Health has been proactive with asymptomatic testing to help identify Covid-19 infection sources in the community on a large scale.

Community asymptomatic testing

Under the community asymptomatic testing plan in the third phase, Khanh Hoa Provincial Center for Disease Control cooperated  with Cam Ranh International Airport to take random samples of 150 staff for Covid-19 testing in early June.

“Working at the Security Section, I contact with many people every day. Though not in close contact, the infection risk is still present. Therefore,  I am also in the testing list.  If the test result is negative, I will feel more secure and better implement epidemic prevention measures; If not,  the health sector will soon take measures to avoid the virus spreading to the community,” said Phan Tien Dung.

"Random sampling for the disease testing at the airport is very essential. The airport has received many rescue flights and domestic flights at the high risk of infection. Along with increasing testing, the airport has thoroughly implemented measures to prevent and control the Covid-19. In addition, to add more shields, the airport in collaboration with the health sector has implemented the Covid-19 vaccination program with nearly two-thirds of staff expected to have been vaccinated by the end of June," said Pham Ngoc Kinh, Deputy Director of Cam Ranh International Airport. Samples of many staff in public agencies, traders, etc. in the community at high risk of Covid-19 infection have been taken for Covid-19 testing with about 1,500 samples already collected in June so far.

Expanding screening testing

With many community cases rising in the 4th wave of the outbreak involving people with unknown infection sources, the heath sector has launched the community testing program, targeting at traders, taxi drivers, workers in manufacturing establishments and industrial zones to determine, trace and contain Covid-19 infection sources in the community.

The health sector implemented 2 sampling phases with more than 500 random samples in the community in the 1st phase and over 300 samples taken in the 2nd phase in industrial zones in Ninh Hoa Town in May. They all have negative results for SARS-CoV-2, according to Huynh Van Dong, Director of Khanh Hoa Center for Disease Control.

Moreover, to ensure the epidemic prevention and control in industrial zones and production facilities; and proactively control the risk of the outbreak in the province, the Provincial People's Committee has just issued a plan to actively monitor the Covid-19 epidemic in industrial zones. According to the plan, 20,000 samples will be collected for SARS-CoV-2 testing in the province.

Beneficiaries for testing in this phase are those working in companies, factories, enterprises, industrial zones, economic zones and industrial clusters in order to detect individuals with Covid-19 but without any symptoms to ensure control and tracing measures will be promptly implemented. The work is scheduled to take place from June until the completion of the sampling.

Together with expanding the screening testing in the community, the heath sector has also given specific Covid-19 prevention and control guidance to health care settings, manufacturing and business establishments and industrial zones; guided health supervision of travelers returning from epidemic-hit areas in the country, etc.
