With the coronavirus pandemic still ongoing, the celebration of the 2021 Workers' Month (May) is less buoyant compared with previous years. However, several meaningful and practical activities have been organized to mark the event.

Giving and sharing

In response to the 2021 Workers' Month, the Trade Union of Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd (HVS) has held a meeting and offered grants worth VND500,000 each to 30 workers in need, suffering from sickness and occupational accidents. Nguyen Tien Dung, a worker at HVS hull assembly office, broke his left femur in an accident and had to stop work for 4 months. The company and its Trade Union gave him much support for his treatment.

Reportedly, in May, HVS Trade Union coordinated with company leaders to carry out many other practical activities such as propagandizing laws and providing legal counseling; organizing talks and honoring workers with initiatives in production. In the Workers’ Month, Nha Trang City Labor Confederation has paid visits and offered more than 100 gifts totaling more than VND50 million to members and workers in need. The Trade Union of the Industry and Trade sector has provided over VND15 million to 30 workers suffering from sickness and financial hardship. Almost 1,600 grassroots Trade Unions have provided grants worth VND500,000 – VND5 million each to the needy. Besides, the Provincial Labor Confederation has offered VND42million relief in total to 16 members and workers having occupational accidents; funded house construction and repair totaling over VND415 million for 10 members, according to Bui Thanh Binh, Chairman of the Provincial Labor Confederation.

Pandemic prevention and control boosted

Together with activities marking the Workers’ Month, the Trade Union at all levels has also taken various measures to propagandize Covid-19 prevention and control among members and workers. The Trade Union of Komega-X Company, Ltd in Suoi Dau Industrial Zone, Cam Lam District has cooperated with the company leader to strictly implement pandemic prevention and control measures following the Ministry of Health’s instructions. Apart from delivering face masks, the company has bought hand sanitizer and body temperature check devices; and ensured isolation rooms available for use when needed to help curb the spread of Covid-19.

The Trade Union of the Provincial Industrial Zones and Economic Zones has enhanced direct and indirect propaganda against Covid-19; regularly sharing and posting information against the pandemic on Facebook and Zalo. All Trade Union members are requested to install Bluezone app. Besides, regular inspection has been conducted to ensure grassroots Trade Unions’ cooperation with businesses to deliver face masks and hand sanitizer; ensure body temperature checks and disinfect buses for workers and workplaces. The Trade Union jointly with grassroots Trade Unions has also paid visits to workers living in rented apartments to propagandize the pandemic prevention and control, according to Huynh Thi Nam Khanh, Chairperson of the Trade Union of the Provincial Industrial Zones and Economic Zones.

Khanh Viet Corporation currently has 31 businesses operating in 9 groups of economic sectors with more than 4,500 staff.
