Collective labor agreements help improve benefits for not only employees but also employers. When collective labor agreements are well implemented, workers feel more secure at work, thus contributing more to the development of enterprises.

Implemented by many enterprises

Fujiura Nha Trang Company, Ltd (Suoi Dau Industrial Zone, Cam Lam District) is a seafood processing enterprise with 100% of Japanese capital. Over the past years, its grassroots Trade Union has mobilized and negotiated with the company owner to sign a collective labor agreement. Tran Dinh Tuy, Chairman of the company Trade Union says, “At first, we had difficulty pursuading the company to sign a collective labor agreement  as the company explained that it had fulfilled all legal regulations. However, “soft and persistent rain penetrates the earth better than a storm”. Persistently and patiently, we have succeeded.”

The first collective labor agreement was signed in 2011, bringing benefits to workers. In following years, the collective labor agreement was adjusted and supplemented with some contents beneficial to nearly 100 workers. They include 2 to 5 fully-paid days off for weddings, deaths and funerals; VND800,000 to 1.3 million grant/ month for workers renting accommodation; VND800,000 to 1.3 million/person/month for fuel; VND18,000/person/day for shift meal, additional VND18,000/person for overtime work meal; and body insurance purchased by the company.

A worker named Hoang Thi My Linh said, “working at the company for nearly 10 years, I feel so satisfied with the company’s policies. Particularly, the company always listens to and take our ideas, aspirations and suggestions into consideration.”

The agreement has more or less beneficial contents depending on grassroots Trade Union officials’ negotiation skills such as choosing the right time for negotiation; highlighting benefits businesses will receive when implementing contents proposed by Trade Unions. Therefore, in the coming time, the provincial Trade Union will focus on providing training for grassroots Trade Union officials to mobilize employers to sign collective labor agreements; coordinate with authorities to check and request businesses to sign and implement the labor agreements to ensure benefits for employees.
