Many have flocked to beaches in Nha Trang City these hot days, especially during holidays. Therefore, the beach rescue team, Nha Trang Bay Management Board has boosted 100% of its patrol force to ensure safety for beach-goers.

According to Nguyen Van Hung, Nha Trang Bay Management Board’s Head of the beach rescue team, his team has 34 members, maintaining patrols along the coast for up to 8km stretching from Bach Dang Park to Hon Chong Beach from 5:00 to 18:30 daily. Each person is in charge of approximately 300m of the beach.

To ensure safety for local swimmers and visitors, especially during the coming tourism season, the unit has raised its staff’s responsibilities and reminded tourists of not swimming during hours without lifeguards. However, the beach rescue work has met some challenges. Besides insufficient rescue equipment, some people ignore water safety instructions and risk themselves by getting into water at rough sea or at night, after drinking alcohol, etc.

According to Huynh Binh Thai, Head of Nha Trang Bay Management Board, apart from beach rescue patrols to keep locals and visitors safe, the board has gradually increased rescue skills and work responsibilities of rescue crews in an effort to prevent and reduce drowning risks.

Furthermore, Nha Trang Bay Management Board has cooperated to boost propaganda and instruct tour guides to remind tourists of beach safety tips and request providers of beach chairs and parasols to join hands to assure safety for beach-goers; raise public awareness of swimming safety tips such as avoiding alcohol use when swimming, keeping an eye on children at all times; and stretching and warming up before getting into water.

The board will send swimming safety propaganda to schools to ensure water safety for children and students during the coming season vacation. Moreover, the unit is building a project on drowning risk reduction for visitors in the city together with suggestion on more signboards and banners set up along the beach to improve safety for everyone.
