Khanh Hoa Provincial Steering Board for Blood Donation has launched the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day in Dien Khanh District, Khanh Hoa Province. Present at the event was Luu Thi Bich Huong, Khanh Hoa Red Cross Vice-Chairperson.

Besides the launching ceremony, the Provincial Steering Board for Blood Donation has built plans for an action month which is scheduled to take place from now to the end of April, aiming to raise the awareness of the humanity of blood donation among cadres, Communist Party members, public servants, laborers, students and all residents, and thus encouraging and motivating everyone to join blood donation. The target of the action month is approximately 2,500 units of blood donated, reaching at least 10% of  blood donated in the whole year.

To reach the target, main activities in the action month include blood donation propaganda, development of blood donors through the establishment of Steering Boards for Blood Donation at agencies, organizations and businesses and clubs of blood donors, voluntary donors, rare blood donors, donors’ families, donors’ groups, emergency blood donors, blood banks, etc.

In addition, talk shows, exchange programs and an award presentation ceremony will be held to encourage organizations, individuals and families to donate blood. Besides, the blood donation and collection are required to ensure quality and safety.

Over the past years, the blood donation campaign has attracted the participation of residents from all walks of life. At present, nearly 100% of blood used in medical treatment and emergency is from donors. The blood donation rate among residents has reached 1.53%; and repeaters reached 63%. Especially, in the 2 recent years, the number of blood donors who are Communist Party members, cadres, workers and public servants and military forces has doubled compared with 5 years ago.

20,000 units of blood are donated and collected a year on average. Since the beginning of the year, more than 20 blood donation drives have been held, collecting more than 5,000 units of blood.

“To further promote blood donation campaign in Khanh Hoa in particular and throughout the province in general, I hope the National Steering Board for Blood Donation together with relevant agencies and departments would improve support for blood donors in medical treatment together with more appropriate awards and commendation for individuals, families and groups with considerable contribution to the blood donation campaign,” said Luu Thi Bich Huong, Khanh Hoa Red Cross Vice-Chairperson.
