Learning beyond classroom walls has been experienced in art classes at iSchool Nha Trang. Drawing outside on sidewalks or in rural areas that are not confined within the classroom provides kids a better opportunity than ever to explore their surroundings and establish a connection with the natural world.

In a recent art class on the sidewalks of Xom Con Street, close to Tran Phu Street, with paper, crayons and sketch easels, kids became so fascinated and excited to let their  imaginations run wild in a real broad natural settings.

Their drawings of Tran Phu Bridge varied based on each kids’ imagination and interests. Besides drawing, children felt free to discuss with their friends and teachers, so the class atmosphere was cheerful and fun.

Hoang Trung Nghia (2C Class) said, “I love the art class. We are taken to a different scenic spot every time we have art class. Drawing in the open air with flowers, trees and real busy roads around is so cool and much exciting than sitting in a classroom.”

According to Nguyen Thi Luyen, a primary education assistant, iSchool Nha Trang, 13 classes of the 1st to 4th grades take the art class outdoors every month. The classes take place in parks or on sidewalks with beautiful views in Nha Trang City such as Ponagar Temples, Tran Phu Bridge, Tram Huong Tower, Xom Bong Bridge, etc.

Drawings by 1st to 4th  graders are so cute as they experience the world with fresh eyes and imagination. Though the real-life experience, the school hopes to teach them responsibilities towards the nature.

Together with outdoor drawing, the kids also visit traditional craft villages and get engaged in gardening, planting and watering trees with farmers. Some kids are so eager to see paddy fields for the first time with buffaloes, pigs, cows and chicken. Hands-on training has proved effective in developing interests in the natural environment and wider surroundings.

Many parents are very interested in the out-of-the-classroom learning that is not confined within the classroom and some even have suggested the school would organize more outdoor activities for kids.
