In spite of great challenges due to Covid-19 impacts, non-governmental businesses and organizations have still provided valuable support for socio-economic growth in Khanh Hoa Province.

Taking advantage of aid resources

38 non-governmental businesses and organizations have been licensed in Khanh Hoa. The organizations are from the U.S.A, France, Australia, England, Holland, Switzerland, Canada, Demark, etc. Besides, 4 international organizations include the United Nations’ Global Fund, the Global Fund to fight HIV/AIDS, the World Health Organization and International Union for Conservation of Nature, according to Khanh Hoa Department of Foreign Affairs.

In 2020, most of experts’ missions of non-governemental organizations cancelled the implementation of projects in Khanh Hoa Province due to Covid-19 impacts. The province received 12 non-governmental relief packages totaling USD393,174 and USD367,910 has been disbursed. Compared with 2019, non-governemental relief packages fell down by 53% and the total value down by 10.4%. However, the relief programs and projects have contributed to improving material and spiritual life in disadvantaged areas, especially vulnerable people.

In spite of a decline in relief projects, the assistance already poured in the province has met the orientation and demand of the province. For example, the water supply and health program sponsored by France’s Morbihan Province through Appel Lorient (France) installed a solar lighting system at Ninh Tan Medical Station in Ninh Hoa Town and Diep Son Medical Sub-station in Van Thanh Commune, Van Ninh District, meeting the needs for energy. The VND1.9 billion project on X-ray machines and digital radiography sponsored by the Consulate General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City has helped improve diagnosis for medical treatment and care at Khanh Son Medical Center, according to Duong Nam Khanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs.

In 2021, the province will continue expanding cooperation with non-governmental organizations at home and abroad, boosting promotion and mobilization of non-governmental organizations and sponsors to give aid priority to poor and mountainous areas in the fields of health, education, culture, social security, agriculture, fisheries, environmental protection, prevention and mitigation of impacts of natural disasters and epidemics.

Trusting and being trusted

23 projects with a total registered capital of more than VND7,547 billion were invested in Khanh Hoa in 2020 (13 projects with a total registered capital of VND4,717 billion in 2019). One of them was a foreign direct investment project with a total registered capital of more than VND82 billion. The projects have partly shown foreign organizations and businesses’ expectation in investment in Khanh Hoa. “Our company has been present in Khanh Hoa for 25 years. I’m sure that an important factor leading to our success is the effective cooperation and support from the local authority,” said Lee Jong Chan, Director General at Hyundai - Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.

After several years of charity and social activities dedicated to children in Khanh Hoa, the Susann’s Help for Children has been applauded by local agencies and authorities at all levels. Many vulnerable kids have benefited from the support to overcome difficulties in life. In 2020, the Susann’s Help for Children gave VND2.5 billion aid to the needy in Nha Trang City, Dien Khanh District and Khanh Vinh District. The organization has planned to continue giving VND2.3 assistance to localities in 2021, according to a representative of Susann’s Help for Children.

Speaking at the meeting with Vietnamese expatriates and foreigners on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2021, Nguyen Tan Tuan, Deputy Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee highly appreciated the valuable contributions of foreign enterprises and investors; practical and meaningful help from international individuals and organizations; non-governmental organizations and overseas Vietnamese. The Government and people in Khanh Hoa hope to continue receiving support and help from businesses, organizations and expatriates as important resources contributing to local socio-economic development in 2021.

In 2020, nine groups awarded certificates of merit for their contribution to the provincial socio-economic growth included Sodex Sport Co., Ltd; Hyundai - Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd; Pearls Vietnam Co., Ltd, Steinsvik Co., Ltd; Australis Aquaculture Vietnam Co., Ltd; Fujiura Nha Trang Co., Ltd; Van Phong Power Co., Ltd; Susann’s Help for Children and Holt International Children Services.
