The implementation of the women's start-up support project, period 2017 – 2025, known as the project 939 by Khanh Hoa Women's Union for nearly 3 years has provided opportunities for many women in Khanh Hoa Province to show and develop their creative start-up ideas and initiatives.

Variety of support activities

The women's start-up support project, period 2017 – 2025, issued by Khanh Hoa People’s Committee has been implemented since December 28, 2017. Under the project, the Women's Union at all levels has cooperated with local agencies and departments to connect with economic experts at such schools as Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Pacific Ocean University and Nha Trang University to open 50 training courses to provide knowledge and skills for 252 women members with business start-up ideas and more than 3,000 members who have started up business, according to Nguyen Hoang Van Ha, Deputy Chairperson of Khanh Hoa Women's Union.

In addition, to enhance the Union cadres’ capacity in providing support for women in business start-up and development, the Women’s Union at all levels has connected with economic experts to open 20 management courses for 303 Union cadres and officials from local departments and agencies participating in the project implementation.

Especially, under the project, many women’s associations have organized start-up and creativity days, inspiring women to show their creative ideas, initiatives and promote their products. The most remarkable is the Women Start-up Product Contest 2020 held by Khanh Hoa Women’s Union. The third-prize winner named Luu Thi Quynh Dung, Dien Hoa Commune, Dien Khanh District said her winning the third prize with making rice cakes would help her a lot in creating production link and promoting customer trust.

Expanding networks

In addition, to support the connection, introduction and promotion of female members' products to consumers, the provincial Women's Union has actively organized product display shows at startup fora and fairs with the participation of nearly 200 companies and household businesses. “The provincial Women's Union has provided opportunities for women with business start-up ideas and aspirations to meet and share experience in production and management as well as product promotion,” says Le Thi Xanh (Van Phuoc Commune, Van Ninh District), a high prize winner with the model of coconut farming on fields.

Furthermore, the Union at all levels has also mobilized the foundation of cooperative economic models to promote connection and cooperation for economic development. Over the past 3 years, the Provincial Women's Union has established 2 cooperatives (goat farming cooperative in Cam Phuoc Dong, Cam Ranh City; new rural construction cooperative in Ninh Sim, Ninh Hoa Town) and 8 cooperative groups (meeting 100% of the project target) with 92 members. Besides, with 2 funding sources from the Bank for Social Policies and the Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development, the Women's Union at all levels has introduced 1,861 women members starting businesses and 16 members of cooperatives to have access to loans worth more than VND156 billion. The Provincial Women's Union has also signed a cooperation program with the Southeast Asia Bank and Lien Viet Post Bank to provide unsecured loans worth VND6.5 billion for 123 people, etc.

To meet the project targets, the Project Management Board will continue implementing activities to support female business owners and Women's Union members starting up business; conducting regular inspection and supervision over the implementation of policies related to business start-up and development support in the province; connecting with local banks to facilitate women to access banking capitals and government credit support programs to start up their businesses, according to Nguyen Hoang Van Ha.
