Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee has just approved the operation of 8 subsidized bus service routes and 1 non-subsidized one to serve local transportation from 2021.

Nha Trang inner city bus transport contract will terminate in June 2021. Khanh Hoa Department of Transportation has hired consultants to prepare bus service direction and operation proposal as an important step for bidding in the coming time to meet public transportation demand in the province, according to the leader of the Department of Transportation.

Khanh Hoa People’s Committee has approved the bus route service design submitted by the Department of Transportation. Specifically, 8 subsidized bus service routes include Bac Hon Ong, Nha Trang City - Dien Son, Dien Khanh District; Northern Hon Ong - Thanh Bus Station, Dien Khanh; Nha Trang Northern Coach Station - Diamond Bay; Luong Son - Thanh Bus Station; Hon Xen -  Hon Ro 1;  Hon Xen -  Vinpearl Bus Station; Nha Trang Southern Coach Station, Vinh Trung Commune - Luong Son Market; Nha Trang Northern Coach Station - Khanh Vinh Town; and Thanh Bus station – Khanh Binh parking. This is the first time 1 non-subsidized tourism bus service route Champarama - Vinpearl bus station will be put into operation.

The buses depart at 5am and finish at 7pm every day; arriving every 10 minutes on peak days, 20-30 minutes on normal days; calling at 34 to 97 bus stops/ trip with 60-102 trips/ route/ day.

According to a representative of the consultancy unit, the bus route direction and operation design proposal is based on actual travel needs. The network has expanded ensuring wide coverage and connection with such places as markets, schools, residential areas, etc. The Provincial People's Committee has approved 1 new bus route to serve tourists in Nha Trang City, forming a public transport axis from the north to the south of the city with a total distance of nearly 16km. This tourist bus route is expected to serve tourists’ travel and sightseeing needs. In addition, the bus route from Thanh bus station to Khanh Binh will be also reopened. This bus route has been interrupted since 2015 due to the lack of State funding, resulting in travel inconvenience in northern communes of Khanh Vinh District and Dien Khanh District.

The approval of the route direction and operation design by the Provincial People's Committee is an important basis for the bidding for investor selection in 2021. The policy on continuing with the community-funded bus service is expected to bring benefits to the society as well as save money for the budget. This has shown most evidently in the first community-funded bus service bidding in 2014 with more than VND20 billion saved for the provincial budget.

Currently, the Department is finalizing documents, including the financial proposal submitted to the Provincial People's Committee for approval. Bidding documents are expected to complete this year. When sufficient documents are completed, the Department will submit them to the Provincial People's Committee to conduct bidding to select investors. The bidding is due to complete before June 1, 2021. All the preparation is being accelerated in accordance with legal provisions.
