Keeping kids safe during summer is one of the slogans in response to the Action Month for Children 2020, reminding families, schools and society of their responsibility to protect children from possible hazards to ensure a safe and happy summer vacation.

In the beginning of this year, Khanh Hoa Department of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs issued documents on child care and protection in the province, focusing on the control and prevention of drowning, accidents and child abuse.

In June, Khanh Hoa Department of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs jointly cooperated to open training classes against injury and accidents in the province. Nguyen Hoai Y Phuong, a student of Me Linh Junior High School, Van Ninh District says, “I think this extracurricular activity is really helpful, providing us knowledge about how to stay safe from injuries and drowning as well as help rescue others.”

According to the leader of Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training, in summer, Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training continues piloting and expanding the model to teach swimming and water safety against drowning in such localities as Nha Trang, Cam Lam, Cam Ranh, Ninh Hoa and Van Ninh. Besides, free swimming lessons are given to poor pupils in Nha Trang and Cam Lam. Schools are encouraged to boost teaching swimming. The department cooperates with local authorities and organizations to create sound and healthy environment for kids to entertain themselves and have fun; take swimming lessons to stay safe; together with timely schemes in response to extreme weather conditions, natural disasters, flooding and storms to assure students’ safety.

Many families want their children to be taught swim and water survival skills, especially during summer holidays so that they will gain basic knowledge of swimming; practice swimming; get first aid, rescue and water safety knowledge and skills; learn how to avoid hazards in dangerous situations in the water, etc.

“There have been several drowning cases among children in recent years. Therefore, like other parents, I am very pleased that the school provides students with water survival skills which are essential life skills,” says Tran Quang Huy whose child is studying at Thai Nguyen Junior High School.
