With many major constructions invested in the past 5 years, Dien Khanh District urban development program has helped enhance the urban appearance and improve local living standards.

Many major constructions

D6 Road connecting the Provincial Road 2 and National Road 27C was opened to traffic in mid July, painting a brighter picture of urban traffic in this area. This is a major construction in honor of the 17th Dien Khanh District Communist Party Committee Congress, term 2020-2025. D6 Road has helped ease traffic burden considerably on the Provincial Road 2.

D6 Road, a major urban construction has just opened to traffic in Dien Khanh District.

According to the leader of Dien Khanh District Urban Management Office, the road constructed from June 2018 has a length of over 1.6km with a total investment of VND125.3 billion. This is a main road connecting Provincial Road 2 and National Road 27C. When put into use, the road has increased connectivity, facilitating travel and thus speeding up urbanization in this area. Besides, the road also runs through a future administrative urban area of the district, connecting internal roads in the administrative urban area; and thus speeding up infrastructure investment in this area.

D6 Road is among major constructions in Dien Khanh District. The total investment in infrastructures in the district has reached VND10,994 billion over the past 5 years, period 2015 – 2020, fulfilling 200% of the target set by the District Party Committee. Of the sum, VND3,105 billion is from State budget and VND7,889 billion from other sources. Key constructions include an embankment in northern Dien Khanh Town, D6 Road, Phu An Nam 2 residential area, Dien Phu High School, Dien Khanh Town Nursery School, District Road 39, Provincial Road 2, Vo Nguyen Giap Road, Southern Cai River new urban area, etc, contributing to enhancing the appearance in the urban area. The district has completed the scheme for Dien Khanh District classified as a type IV urban area and submitted it to the provincial People's Committee for consideration and to the Ministry of Construction for recognition. This is an important step to build Dien Khanh District into a town in the future.

Striving to become town by 2025

According to Phan Van Tung, Director of Dien Khanh District Urban Management Office, during the implementation of the urban development program, the district has faced many challenges. Some important projects have not been implemented due to dependence on provincial programs or investment capitals not yet allocated such as Phu Loc Road project, Ly Thai To Road, infrastructures of the administrative urban area, etc.

Dien Khanh has one type IV urban area and three type V urban areas, annually receiving funding from the provincial budget for renovation. Further improvement in infrastructures is required. However, the funding demand for urban development is high while the budget capital is limited, so the urban development and refurbishment have focused mainly on Dien Khanh Town and neighboring areas. The community participation in health care, education and sporting sectors has not yet attracted investors’ attention.

To continue effectively implementing the urban development program, synchronously developing socio-technical infrastructures, increasing urbanization to meet the goal of building Dien Khanh District as a town by 2025, the district has proposed many key solutions on policies to boost motivation for urban development, funding for urban construction, human resources, job creation, work transfer in new urban areas, housing development, construction of new urban areas, etc.

Dien Khanh District has determined that the urban development space is closely associated with Nha Trang City to become a central urban area of the province. The main functions include trade services combined with eco-cultural and historical tourism, clean agriculture and industry, playing a key role in the growth of the new urban area in western Nha Trang City with priority given to investment in projects meeting the target of creating motivation for the development of Dien Khanh urban area.
