Over the past years, Nha Trang City has invested in a decoration light system to illuminate the city during festivities. However, more comprehensive lighting initiatives are required.

The lighting system in Nha Trang City is required to set the tone for the coastal city of Nha Trang as well as specific highlights of an urban area. According to the city's assessment, the current lighting system has not been rationally arranged; lacking important highlights; lacking areas of lighting attraction for revellers; outdated lighting solutions, focusing on less desirable direct lighting rather than reflected one, etc.

The city has made an urban art lighting project, specifying lighting on some streets, constructions and major areas. It covers lighting in parks, on main streets, bridges and high-rise buildings on western Tran Phu Street, from Le Loi Street to Hoang Dieu Street.

1A change in a lighting design at Tram Huong Tower is suggested to create a more appealing look.

According to the project, in the beach park along Tran Phu Street, decorative LED lights will be used to illuminate coconut trees, spotlights to light up ancient Casuarina equisetifolia trees together with pathway uplights and in-ground lights.

At the 2-4 Square, the use of light music is suggested with beams of light from high-rise buildings around. The Children’s Park and Yen Phi Park will be embellished with colorful lights to attract visitors at night. The lighting design may change according to seasons and weather, etc. In Tram Huong Tower area, yellow-orange lighting will remain to accentuate the tower architecture and reduce lighting around. High-rise buildings situated to the west of the city vary in architecture and heights and each with a different investor, so it’s difficult to enforce upon a general lighting design for all.

Nha Trang City has proposed the Department of Construction to assess the lighting art design. The project is expected to last for 5 years from 2021 to 2025 with a total capital of VND174 billion, excluding funding for lighting Ponagar Temples, Nha Trang Cathedral and high-rise buildings on western Tran Phu Street.

Nguyen Anh Tuan, Chairman of Nha Trang City People’s Committee has proposed Khanh Hoa People’s Committee to allow the City People’s Committee to approve the project. Ideas and suggestions from concerned agencies will continue to be taken for consideration before the implementation of the project.

Reportedly, Nha Trang City has collected ideas of the Department of Construction, the Department of Industry & Trade, the Review Council at Khanh Hoa Union of Science & Technology Associations, etc. According to the review report on the lighting art design in Nha Trang City by Khanh Hoa Union of Science & Technology Associations, the project is required to supplement lighting locations along Tran Phu Street and some other streets, including Nha Trang Port, Bao Dai Hill, Hon Chong area and the northernmost point of the city on Pham Van Dong Street and on western Hon Tre.

Khanh Hoa People’s Committee has recently assigned the Department of Planning & Investment to preside over and coordinate with the Departments of Culture and Sports, Construction, Tourism, Finance and related agencies to work with Nha Trang City People's Committee to assess the recommendations mentioned above. Particularly, investment funding for the project together with other related contents needs to be clarified.
