Khanh Hoa Department of Transport has approved an economic-technical report of the repair and maintenance of Nha Trang City bus infrastructures. Improvement to many work items will begin soon this year.

Major improvements to run-down infrastructures

6 bus routes in Nha Trang City have been operated by Quyet Thang Khanh Hoa Company since 2014. This is under the policy of community participation funding to increase public bus service effectiveness as well as decrease budget funding. However, the bus infrastructures in Nha Trang City have been damaged and downgraded for years.

Some bus stops are without shelters or only with roofless benches, causing inconvenience to commuters. Many bus signs are damaged, rusted or faded. Roofless bus stop shelters leave commuters exposed to rain, according to complaints of locals and students of such schools as Khanh Hoa Political School and Le Quy Don Gifted High School in Phuoc Dong Commune.

Bus infrastructures in Nha Trang City invested in 2004 – 2005 have been damaged after long–term use. During 15 years of operation, no major repairs and maintenance have been made to the infrastructures, causing disadvantages to bus service, affecting the public transport turnover. Khanh Hoa Department of Transportation has just suggested investing in the improvement made to 6 bus routes in Nha Trang City, says Nguyen Van Dan, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Transportation.

Divided into 2 investment phases

Due to considerable investment funding, Khanh Hoa Department of Transport has suggested dividing into 2 investment phases. In the first phase, priority will be given to busy or severely damaged bus routes. The 1st phase implemented in 2019 includes building 3 shelters at Khanh Hoa Political School, Nha Trang College of Technology and Le Quy Don Gifted High School; repainting road surface markings at bus stops; and replacing damaged signs (50% of the existing signs) of the route No.2, 4 and 6.

The 2nd phase in 2020 includes building 2 shelters at the end point of route No. 3 in Song Lo, Phuoc Dong Commune and the end point of the route No. 5 in Hon Ro; repairing 1 shelter at Trung Vuong Junior High School on 2-4 Street; repairing and replacing 50% of the remaining damaged signs. The total investment cost is expected nearly VND2.7 billion (VND1.5 billion for the 1st phase and more than VND1.2 billion for the 2nd one).

Khanh Hoa Department of Transportation has finished assessing the economic and technical report of Nha Trang inner city bus route repair and maintenance. The Department of Transportation has issued a document to the Department of Finance to allocate funding for contractor selection. The installment cost is expected to be VND800 million. The project is scheduled to be completed and put into operation before the Lunar New Year.
