Khanh Hoa – Saigon Businessmen’s Club held a Caravan charity program on June 30 donating 315 bikes and thousands of gifts to poor students in Van Ninh District to help them with their academic pursuits.

The program took place at Van Lang Junior High School, Van Gia Town, providing bikes for poor students. Nguyen Minh Dieu, a 7th-grader of Nguyen Hue Junior High School, Van Phuoc Commune says “I was so happy to receive a new bike, my dream that I have cherished for so long. From now on, my travel to school, 3km, will take less time.” Reportedly, Nguyen Minh Dieu is from a poor family of many children. Her mother works for hire with an unstable income. Therefore, the bike is such great happiness and encouragement for the child in study.

Bui Thi Ngan Thoa, a 10th-grader of To Van On High School, Van Khanh Commune is so delighted to receive a bike. Her father died when she was still a little child, leaving her mother behind with the family burden. Her mother works hard to earn a living so she has never asked her mother for a bike. She has to walk for more than 3km to school every day. “My friends have bikes and some are taken to school by  their parents. Walking to school on some rainy days, I had my clothes so muddy and I felt sad. I am so happy to get a bike.”

Bui Thi Ngan Thoa and Nguyen Minh Dieu are among 315 recipients in Van Ninh District sharing the happiness of receiving bikes offered by Khanh Hoa – Saigon Businessmen’s Club. In addition, the club has also offered more than 100 gifts containing school bags, notebooks, pens, cash and candies to over 100 poor students in primary schools in Van Ninh District.

Nguyen Hai Nam, Chairman of Khanh Hoa – Saigon Businessmen’s Club says, “Students in Van Ninh District are suffering from a hard life. Unfortunately, Van Ninh District was severely damaged by Typhoon Damrey in 2017. We have called for joint effort of businesses and businessmen in Ho Chi Minh City to help the needy and inspire their learning. Over the past years, the club has taken several charity trips to such communities as Ninh Hoa Town, Khanh Son District, Khanh Vinh District, Dien Khanh Dsitrict and Cam Lam District. We have founded a Scholarship Fund. Therefore, in the coming years, we will continue providing support for needy students in Khanh Hoa.”

Bikes and gifts offered by Khanh Hoa – Saigon Businessmen’s Club are expected to inspire the needy to greater efforts in study. At present, many out of more than 20,000 primary and junior school students in the district are living in poverty, lacking learning resources. Every year, the District Study Association donates over 30 bikes and dozens of scholarships to poor students. However, the demand for bikes to schools is still high. Hopefully, Khanh Hoa – Saigon Businessmen’s Club continues giving assistance to poor students, says Nguyen Tung, Vice-Chief of Van Ninh District Division of Education & Training.

Moreover, apart from bikes and gifts to poor students in Van Ninh District, on July 1, Khanh Hoa – Saigon Businessmen’s Club offered 600 new sets of clothes and 100 bikes to students in Khanh Son District. The charity work in Khanh Hoa was worth more than VND1 billion. The club in cooperation with Phu Yen – Ho Chi Minh City Businessmen’s Club also donated 300 bikes to disadvantaged students in Phu Yen Province; and VND100 million to Phu Yen Province on the occasion of its 30th anniversary of re-establishment.
