A woman named Nguyen Thi Xuan Phong, 61 years old, residing on Binh Ba Island, Cam Binh Island Commune is well-known for her charity work and virtuous deeds to help to people in need. She is a good example for women members to learn about doing business and contributing to the community, according to Vo Thi Ngoc Diep, Chairperson of Cam Binh Commune Women’s Association, Cam Ranh City.

Nguyen Thi Xuan Phong’s family lives on fishing. In spite of hardship, they tried their best to ensure their children can get good education and care to grow into healthy and productive adults. The children graduated from colleges and universities and got jobs. The woman has made great effort to work and succeeded with a seafood store.

Besides, she has spent time on charity activities with donations to help people in need. Every year, she visits and offers rice and grants worth more than VND30 million to poor women. A resident N.T.H in Binh Ba Dong Village has received nearly a VND5 million grant to repair the house. Another woman P.T.N suffering from a serious disease has been offered VND2 million. They are among many beneficiaries getting assistance from Nguyen Thi Xuan Phong.

Nguyen Thi Xuan Phong says “I have tough childhood, so I want to help others like me. The most important things is the support and favorable conditions provided by my family to do charity work.” She has also donated VND5 million/ house to the construction of homes for vulnerable people so far. In addition, she has offered work opportunities to 8 women with an income of VND3.5 million/ person/ month, according to Vo Ngoc Thi My Lanh, Chief of Binh Ba Dong Village Women Branch.


Moreover, every year, she donates scholarships to 15-20 students. Since 2013-2014, she has offered VND40 million scholarships to nearly 150 students. This is meaningful work, encouraging poor students to overcome difficulties to continue their schooling, says Teacher Nguyen Phu Hoa, Vice Principal of Nguyen Trung Truc School, Cam Binh Commune.
