The Action Month for Children 2016 is scheduled to take place in June with numerous practical activities towards children.
The Action Month for Children is themed “For safe lives, preventing accidents and injuries for children” to raise public awareness of responsibilities to assure a safe and sound place for child development. The event is under the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 234 dated February 5, giving approval on the program on preventing accidents and injuries among children during the 2016-2020 period.
Accordingly, Khanh Hoa Department of Labor, Invalids & Social Affairs will hold a ceremony to launch the Action Month for Children on May 31. Launching ceremonies at district level will take place from the 4th week of May to before June 1. Main activities will include seeking donations from local and international individuals and organizations to the construction of swimming pools, amusement parks; “safe houses”, ‘safe schools”, “safe community”; improving living environment to assure safety and prevent accidents and injuries for children; visiting and offering gifts such as helmets, life-jackets, lifebuoys; granting scholarships; and providing surgery, orthopedics, rehabilitation support, psychological consulting for children in need, having experienced accidents or injuries.
Local departments, agencies, organizations and communities are required to join effort to implement the month effectively. The Department of Education & Training will enhance education and propaganda on children’s rights; prepare a safe summer vacation; provide children with accident and injury control and prevention skills and safe traffic skills.
In addition, Khanh Hoa Department of Health will give directions for infectious disease control in summer; instruct medical institutions to raise medical staff’s capacity in emergency care and treatment for children suffering from accidents and injuries. Khanh Hoa Public Security is to boost inspection and punishment in relation to explosives, crackers and dangerous toys; supervision over local police’s implementation of tasks on accident and injury control and prevention for children.
Besides, People’s Committees of districts and towns are instructed to allocate the local budget and instruct local departments, agencies, organizations, districts and towns to effectively carry out the action month 2016; boost propaganda via mass media to raise public awareness of and public engagement in accident and injury control and prevention for children; organize entertaining, musical and sporting activities; and offer presents and scholarships to children in need and in remote areas.
