The scientific name of the newly-discovered frog species is Kurxalus viridescens Nguyen, Matsui, and Duc, 2014.

A group of Vietnamese and Japanese researchers has found the samples in Hon Ba Nature Reserve in Khanh Hoa Province and Bi Doup – Nui Ba National Park in Lam Dong Province.
The new finding has raised tree frogs reported in Vietnam to 63 species belonging to 11 breeds.
