After 1 year of launching (from April 1, 2012), the contest received 266 press works and 522 songs. These works conveyed the profound messages and feelings of authors about the soldiers and people living and working on the islands. “These works greatly touch everyone thanks to their messages about the patriotism and the national sovereignty. They are spiritual property of the whole nation in the movement of protecting and developing islands and sea,” said Ta Bich Loan – journalist and member of the jury council.
Indeed, the participating works reflected lively the life of people on the Spratly Islands as well as the sentiments between the islands and people throughout the country. “When I knew that the there is no name of the Spratly and Paracel Archipelagos in the Chinese map published on 1904, I decided to make a film about the Spratly Islands of Vietnam. All the places I have visited on the Spratly Islands are very dear to my heart”, Minh Chuong, the reporter of Khanh Hoa Radio & Television Station said. His work was awarded first prize in press category. The film was an affirmation of the sovereignty of Vietnam over the Spratly Islands.

“I tried to bring the real life on the Spratly Islands into my song,” songwriter Nguyen Le Tam, awarded the first prize for song category, said. Through the musical language, he told a story about real life of the soldiers working on the Islands with the names such as Luong Xuan Giap and Dinh Ngoc Tuan. The song about the fellow-countryman on the remote islands evoked the feeling of warm in each people.
Beside the 2 works awarded first prize, there were other works leaving a deep impression on the public. In press category, there were works of Hoang Thi Thuy (VnExpress), the group of Tran Tuan Hiep (Vietnam Television Station) and Hai Luan (Bien Phong Newspaper), Luu Thi Huong (Hanoi Radio and Television Station), etc. In song category, the outstanding works were ones of songwriter Vu Thiet (Hanoi), songwriter Pham Hoang Long (Ho Chi Minh City), and Le Hanh (Khanh Hoa), etc. “All the participating songs are like letters expressing author’s determination, which show the love of people throughout the country for the national sea and the Spratly Islands,” said Tran Long An – head of the jury council.
The composing contest about the Spratly Islands and the sea in Khanh Hoa has raised the patriotism and the awareness of each Vietnamese people in protecting the national sovereignty. “This is a meaningful contest. It created an opportunity for the reporters, the journalists, the songwriters and the photographers who were professional or amateur nationwide to show their pride for the national islands and sea as well as their admiration for people who are living and working on the remote islands. It has also aroused the pride for the beloved islands of the nation in each Vietnamese,” Minh Chuong shared.
Hopefully, in the coming time, the outstanding works will be popularized in order to bring into play the effects of the contest.
