This year's theme for World Environment Day is 'Your Planet needs You! Unite to combat climate change'. The United Nations have encouraged all the community to take responsibility to protect the planet.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has confirmed climate change is a global threat. Therefore, he encouraged government leaders to take responsibility for the climate. 'We all have a responsibility. Hold corporations responsible for their environmental practices.'

Climate change has become an alarming global issue of our era. The World Environment Day highlights resources and initiatives that promote low carbon life-styles, such as improved energy efficiency, alternative energy sources, forest conservation and eco-friendly consumption. Climate change has led many disease outbreaks such as bird flu, bovine spongiform encephalopathy, foot-and-mouth disease, acute diarrhea and so on affecting millions of human lives. A/H1N1 epidemic has killed hundreds of people in 54 countries and territories. According to experts, main causes leading to climate change include emission of CO2, CH4, N2O and other hazardous waste, forest destruction, etc. have altered the energy balance of the Earth.

In Vietnam in general and Khanh Hoa in particular, forest destruction and emission of hazardous waste have raised an alarming issue. The irresponsibility of some organizations, enterprises and individuals have caused threat to the community health. Therefore, priority has been given to the implementation of biological and environment related projects including afforestation, environmental hygiene in Nha Trang City, waste removal on Nha Trang Bay and many more.

'Your Planet needs You! Unite to combat climate change' has reflected the common responsibility to protect the earth. Everyone needs to work together to conserve the environment against climate change.
