Vietnam’s first solar panels, 30-40 percent cheaper than similar imported ones, will soon be available on the market.

A solar panel producing factory owned by the Red Sun Energy Joint Stock Company (RedSun) started up in Duc Hoa Industrial Park, Long An Province, on April 27. Its General Director Diep Bao Canh said their solar panels have a capacity of 80Wp-165Wp of power with a 25-year life expectancy.

In the first period, from 2009-2010, the factory will make products that can generate 5MWp or 4 million kWh of electricity a year. In the 2nd period, it will raise its capacity to 25MWp a year. Nearly 40 percent of the panels will be for sales on the home market while the remaining will be exported.

Besides, RedSun also produces LED bulbs, and traffic lights using solar panels as well as other energy saving products like solar water heating systems and compact fluorescent lamps.
