Helmet to be compulsory for electric bike riders

People sitting on electric bikes have to wear helmet as of July 1, 2009, said the amended and supplementary Law to the Land Road Traffic Law.

Despite the fact that electric bicycle is ranged as a kind of rudimentary vehicles, the amended and supplementary Law will oblige its riders to wear helmet for their life safety.

In comparison with the Law of 2001, the amended and supplementary Law have some new rules in accordance with the social development.

It bans pedestrians, rudimentary vehicles, motorbikes and motorcycles with a maximum speed below 70 km/h from traveling on highways.

Also according to the law, a motorbike or motorcycle will be permitted to enclose a child under 14 years of age as the third person while a bicycle only will be allowed to carry a child under 7.

Otherwise, drivers also will be required to take more papers with them when participating in traffic, those are Registration Certificate (of vehicles), Driving License, Verification Certificate (of automobiles) and Civil Liability Insurance Certificate.

Besides, the Law raises the minimum age of 10-30 seat car drivers to 24 from current 21 and that of 30-seat-plus car drivers to 27 from current 25.

Moreover, people who have alcohol in breath or blood will be prohibited from driving automobiles, tractors and specialized motorbikes. And, the legal alcohol concentration limit for riding a motorbike or a motorcycle will be 50mg/100 ml in blood or 0.25mg/l in breath.
