Industrial marine fish farm can withstand powerful storms on Van Phong Bay

In recent years, unfavorable weather conditions, especially powerful storms such as Typhoon Damrey in 2017 and Typhoon Molave hitting Vietnam some days ago, have caused heavy losses to many cage farming households. This requires a change from tradition wooden cages to HDPE cages. In fact, the HDPE cages of the experimental farm of High-tech Marine Fish Farming Center (Research Institute for Aquaculture No 1) at Van Phong Bay could withstand Typhoon Damrey.

This farm rears snubnose pompano, 50% for export, 50% for domestic consumption

The farm has 20 HDPE aquaculture round cages with a circumference of 60m, volume of 2,400m3 each, used for commercial fish aquaculture

25 square 5mx5mx5m cages are used to store broodstock and rear juvenile fish

Commercial feed is used to feed snubnose pompano

Feed sprayer is used to evenly spread fish feed over the cage

Each crop (8 to10 months) can produce 200 tons of fish weighing 0.5-1kg/fish

This is the first industrial-scale marine fish farm granted VietGAP certification in Vietnam
