Due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, most agricultural, forestry and fishery products in Khanh Hoa Province face many difficulties in consumption. Departments, branches and localities in the province have been focusing on supporting and removing difficulties in order to limit damages.

A lot of difficulties

According to a report of the Department of Industry and Trade, due to the Covid-19 epidemic, more than 40,000 tons of mangoes harvested in this crop could not be sold, the purchasing price dropped sharply compared to previous years. Besides, due to the influence of unseasonal rains, some mango areas were not harvested in time, so they were spoiled, causing heavy damage to mango growers. There are still about 20 tons of green-skin grapefruits in the gardens although the harvest has ended. The end of July is also the time to harvest some fruits such as durians, bananas, rambutans, tangerines... Although the purchase price has not decreased much compared to previous years, the sale has faced many difficulties. In addition, some agricultural products are in the harvest season but no trader have bought like every year, the ability to sell is very difficult. Specifically, apples have an output of more than 400 tons, the harvest time is from July to October; purple sugarcane starts harvesting from September with an expected output of about 11,000 tons…

Regarding seafood, some types of aquatic products have reduced selling price and slow consumption such as lobsters: 1.3 - 1.7 million VND/kg; shrimps: 120,000 - 130,000 VND/kg (50-60 shrimps/1kg), 70,000 - 80,000 VND/kg (100 shrimps/kg); snails: 150,000-160,000 VND/kg…

While the output is difficult and the price decreases, the cost of agricultural and aquatic production (the purchase price of seeds, fertilizers, feed, preventive medicine, etc.) has increased. In addition, agricultural and aquatic products have come to the harvest time, but they cannot be sold; therefore, farmers still have to continue to grow and take care of them, and spend more money to maintain and wait for consumption. Some establishments processing dried seafood, spices, processing fruits... do not purchase raw material and, temporarily suspend production due to slow product consumption. The large processing and trading enterprises have faced difficulties due to the following costs of transportation, delivery, etc. have increased. On the other hand, purchasing power declined as restaurants and hotels had to suspend operations…

Connecting supply chains

According to Le Huu Hoang - Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Khanh Hoa has been implementing many drastic solutions to facilitate harvesting, consumption and circulation of goods and agricultural products to minimize damage for farmers. In the near future, the province will continue to implement solutions to support and remove difficulties in the consumption of agricultural products, especially aquatic products.

With the above situation, the provincial Department of Industry and Trade has sent a document to the Domestic Market Department, the Trade Promotion Agency and the E-commerce and Digital Economy Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Departments of Industry and Trade of provinces and cities, supermarkets, distribution enterprises nationwide... propose to coordinate and support the province's agricultural product consumption. The Provincial Youth Union organized the program "Joining hands to support farmers and rural youth to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic". The provincial Farmers' Association cooperated with Khanh Hoa Young Entrepreneurs Association to connect with a number of businesses inside and outside the province to purchase mangoes; cooperated with Viettel Post to put agricultural products of the province on the e-commerce trading floor Voso.vn, organize sales at the product introduction point of the association. The provincial Women's Union organizes the purchase of tens of tons of agricultural products, mainly vegetables, fruits, and vegetables for farmers...

Currently, the situation of Covid-19 epidemic in the province is basically under control. Therefore, the province needs to connect the supply chain soon, especially in this period. To create favorable conditions, promote consumption, stabilize output for agricultural products and avoid stagnation of agricultural products, at the national online conference on promoting circulation and consumption of agricultural products in the context of the Covid-19 epidemic, the provincial People's Committee has proposed that central ministries, agencies and branches continue to pay attention to promoting the implementation of policies to support farmers in agricultural production, and to support production facilities in the field of agricultural production…
