Moving in agriculture

Agriculture continued to have a strong shift in 2020. According to the report of the Department of Plant Cultivation and Protection, in 2020, the whole province has converted 651 hectares of crops. In which, 526 hectares of ineffective land of annual crops and perennial trees were switched to fruit trees like durian, jackfruit, grapefruit, mango, etc. For annual crops, due to drought, the cultivated area only reached 62,585.5 hectares, a decrease of 22% compared to 2019.

In animal breading, diseases in cattle and poultry have been controlled. So, breeding saw a stable development. There were 83,000 buffalows and cows, nearly 3 million heads of poultry and more than 270,000 pigs. In particular, the current breeding activities are moving to modern breeding farms, meeting the requirements of veterinary hygiene. Each farm has up to thousands of pigs and tens of thousands of poultry. Pigs raised in farms account for more than 70% of the total herd.

In fisheries, both in fishing and aquaculture faced unfavorable weather in 2020; however, with the efforts of the fishermen, fishery yield of the whole Khanh Hoa Province reached more than 110,000 tons, an increase of 1.7% compared to the previous year, 97,000 tons in fishing.

Promoting agriculture development

At the recent conference to summarize the year 2020 and launch the 2021 tasks of the agriculture sector, Dinh Van Thieu - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee suggested that the agriculture sector in 2021 and the following years focuses on research to to select and build a number of strong agricultural products for commodity-oriented development. Khanh Hoa's agricultural products are highly appreciated by the market for their quality and uniqueness, but have not been produced, processed or sold according to the commodity model.

The Provincial People's Committee now is focusing on building a socio-economic master planning which will be completed in 2021 and submitted to the Prime Minister for consideration and approval, including the planning for the agriculture. This is the necessary basis to promote the agriculture to develop further.

According to Le Tan Ban - Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2021, the agriculture sector continues to accelerate the restructuring of agriculture and rural economy; review, adjust, timely supplement and effectively implement key projects and programs such as restructuring plants and animals, building large fields, developing cooperative economy.
