Ten Vietnamese businesses have been named the top 500 retailer list in the Asia-Pacific region in an annual ranking by Singapore’s Retail Asia Magazine which is a global magazine publication for retailers in Asia and worldwide.
Saigon Jewelry Holding Company (SJC) was ranked as the leading retailer in Vietnam with 2008’s retail turnover of VND4.5 trillion, followed by PhuNhuan Jewelry Joint Stock Company (VND3,915 billion), supermarket chain Saigon Co.op Mart (VND3,883 billion), Nguyen Kim Electronic Appliance Center(VND3,240 billion) and supermarket chain Big C (VND1,955).
The list also includes department store chain Parkson (VND1,800), convenience store chain G7 Mart (VND1,613 billion), the Diamond Plaza Department Store (VND944 billion), the Best Carings Electronics Shopping Center (VND810 billion)and bookstore chain Fahasa (VND750 billion).
All the above businesses are from Ho Chi Minh City.
The annual top 500 ranking voted by Retail Asia Magazine since 2004 is based on the primary criteria of overall sales turnover, growth rate, sales turnover per sqm and expansion of businesses in countries or economies in Asia-Pacific.
The 2009 top 500 list was ranked by 2008’s turnover of businesses from 14 countries or economies, including Australia, China, India, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
The awards ceremony this year will be organized in Seoul, South Korea on October 15, 2009.
