Shanghai Airlines officially provided direct flights to Hanoi on March 27 and opened its new booking office at 9 Dao Duy Anh, Dong Da, Hanoi.

TransViet, Shanghai Airlines' main ticket agency in Hanoi, says the carrier uses  162- seat Boeing 737-800 flying three times a week. Shanghai Airlines has kicked off a special airfare offer that a return ticket on the Hanoi-Shanghai route costs only 280 USD, a 35% cut, from March 27th to April 30th. Flights from Hanoi are  expected to depart on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and from Shanghai on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.

Shanghai Airlines was established and started operations in 1985. Shanghai Airlines was officially welcomed as the 19th member of Star Alliance on December 12, 2007.

Shanghai Airlines provided the first flight to Ho Chi Minh City on August 8, 2002. Now Shanghai Airlines will be the first and is the only airline to have direct flights between Hanoi and Shanghai. This will facilitate travel between Hanoi and Shanghai, the largest city in China in terms of population and one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world, as well as help strengthening understanding and friendship between the two peoples.
