Moon cake price this year increases by 10-20% and consumers tend to choose familiar trademarks and beautiful designs. The purchasing power is on the rise. Moon cakes of many trademarks are on display. Predominant market leaders are perhaps Kinh Do with its agents on big streets in Nha Trang City (Thong Nhat, Tra Quy Cap, Quang Trang, Yersin...), followed by Bibica, Vinh Thanh, ABC and Thanh Cong. Shops selling moon cakes made in Nha Trang City include Hoa Hung, Thuan Hung and Giai Tran. Moon cake labeled Phaner (Pham Nguyen) is on display in most of the markets in Nha Trang City.
According to Hoang, a trader in Phaner shops, this festival, moon cakes are given as gifts in many companies, factories...It is customary to give boxes of moon cakes, which are traditionally very rich in taste. Kinh Do Cake Company launches 3 sets of new luxury cakes, Trang vang Hong Phuc (450,000 VND), Trang vang Vinh Hoa (280,000 VND) and Trang Thanh tu (220,000 VND).
ABC trademark offers Disney moon cakes, 85g and 220g, for children with the prices ranging from 20,000 VND to 48,000VND/ each. The cake are in shapes of famous characters in cartoon Disney such as white princes, Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto, Daisy and Goofy...Baked moon cakes White Princess is the most expensive with the fillings from roast chicken, cheese and egg yokes. Other kinds are cheaper with the fillings from lotus seeds and black sesame or lotus seeds and corn. 100g baked cakes with the green pea filing (7,000 VND) was in cute shapes of pets like kitten, Doremon, piglet, unicorn...
While big trademarks invest in designs and forms, small manufacturers in Nha Trang Icty put focus on the quality. This year, Hoa Hung confectionery (Phan Boi Chau Street, Nha Trang City) introduces new kinds of moon cakes with the fillings of durian-coconut, durian- green pea and sticky cakes with fruit mixture. The mixture of fresh durian and green bean, coconut adds great flavor to the cakes. Sticky cakes with fruit mixture of both sour and sweet tastes really bring a good appetite.
Higher price due to increase in material price
Kinh Do cake prices increase by 5-10% against the last year. For example : the fin- ham-(800g, 4 egg yokes) increases from 150,000 VND to 160,000 VND, ham Eight Dishes (800g, 4 egg yokes) from 119,000 VND to 130,000 VND. Dang Thi Minh Tam, owner of Hoa Hung Confectionery said, “This year, the material prices increase by 20-30%, but the cake prices rise by only 10-15% to keep our prestige and customers”
