Nha Trang Oceanography Institute is one of the marine researching centers born early in Viet Nam. It is considered as the largest center in Asia to preserve artifacts and research on ocean. There are over 20,000 patterns of more than 10,000 species of marine creature preserved and collected for years in addition to those alive in aquariums. Nha Trang Oceanography Institute has just been chosen to be one out of ten culturally and historically attractive beauty - spots that has just received recognition as “satifastory beauty spot in 2005.”
Speaking of Nha Trang Oceanography Institute, people can’t help mentioning its organic part - Oceanography museum that was very famous in the 1930s with the name “Oceanography Institute’s lake”. Nowadays, Oceanography museum is centered on up - grading, expanding and developing into a chain population including marine creature aquariums serving researchs, sight - seeing as well as community education and a system of marine creature preserving houses which is the largest one in the country. There have been several patterns sent to different laboratories and museums around the world.
Visiting the museum, beside gazing with veneration at the beauty of hundreds of tropical marine creatute species, tourists can get to know about over 10,000 of creatute species of the oriental sea being saved. A set of marine creature patterns includes species that are now existing in vietnamese sea, cambodian sea and the neighbourings. In which, there are scared marine beast species in danger of exstinction like dugong. In particular, a skeleton of a giant whale (26m long, 3m tall) buried in the red river delta at least over 200 years ago is now kept in the museum for exhibition as well as for preservation. It is such a valuable relic. It also introduces the natural features of The South China Sea, the valuable natural resource, the coastal environmental landscape, the rich eco - system such as: coral reefs, … to those who come to visit the museum in order to raise their sense to protest the landscape for the benefit of their offsprings. The Oceanography museum is becoming the center where people show, introduce and teach the tradition of conquering, exploiting as well as protesting the sea of Viet Nam. It is such a precious marine cultural heritage center to be preserved and developed. Dr. R. Serene remarked: “to botanists around the world, Nha Trang Oceanography Institute has at present been a valuable collecting center”. As a result, it has met tourist’s demands for both going sight - seeing and investigating. Vice professor, Dr. nguyen Tac an, Head of Nha Trang Oceanography Institute said that to know what the tourists’demands are, the institute has created an ideal space for tourists to ralax. The institute’s cadres of those who give tourists a commentary of the collection are high - educated, updated with latest information all the time and the way to communicate with tourists which is lively and suitable for each kind of people has satified tourists. In order to make tourists pleasant, the institute always intensifies technological knowledge, changes and supplements for the new. Next time, the institute is to open a high - tech marine creature taming area, aiming at serving the policy on development of vietnamese sea economy. Hoping that after going sight seeing this area, tourists will develop several new ideas for business in order to make new products for tourism.
